As it sets to celebrate Nigeria’s virtuous women, a group, Nigeria Female Youth Organisation has called on well-meaning citizens to support girl-child education.
The president of the group, Michelle Peter made this known yesterday in Abuja ahead of its planned celebration of the International Women’s Day with the theme: “Girl Child Empowerment… A Pathway To National Development.”
Michelle said the event will take place on March 30, 2023 and will feature the minister of women affairs, Dame Pauline Fallen, while the minister of education is the special guest of honour, and senator-elect of the FCT, Ireti Kingibe (Mummy Apo), Prophetess Nkeiru Ihezuo, Mama Diaspora, Chief Temitope Ajayi, Uju Kennedy, activist Aisha Yesufu and creative artist, Millicent Onuegbu would be in attendance.

She said, “We are using this opportunity to say no to violence against women and to also encourage people to support girl child education which is paramount because there is this saying that if you train a girl you have trained a whole nation.
if you train a girl that girl is going to empower others.”
She said the organisation is celebrating Nigerian virtuous women’s achievements in the economy, social and political arena to encourage them to do more so that others will copy from them.
She stated that there is also every need to reawaken the consciousness of the people about womanhood, adding that women are being relegated to the backdoor.
“Women like the director-general of World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the late Prof Dora Akunyili and among others have done very well. So, women should be encouraged to come out and complement the work of the men and looking at it most of the women are doing better than the men,” she said.
