Arising from a town hall meeting and public enlightenment campaign against violent protest, dangers and implications, the Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Organizations (CACSOs) said protest under any guise is not the solution to the present economic challenges in the country.

Convener of the town hall meeting and public enlightenment, Comrade Yahaya Salisu stated this at the Wonderland Hotel, Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna venue of the meeting in his welcome address.

Comrade Salisu, the president of the Hausa Youth Council worldwide, averred that the proper channel to seek redress in any issue is constructive dialogue, adding that only through such means can peace and progress be achieved.

He said youths should not allow themselves to be used as tools for destruction but for positive changes, adding that most people have sponsored and still sponsor bad elements to disrupt peaceful coexistence.

According to him, “Most protests in the past have taken us backwards than forward hence the need to do whatever it takes to avoid a reoccurrence, we must be agents of change in our society.

” We are aware of the present situation, where as a country we are battling with insecurity, poverty and increase in prices of foodstuffs among other social vices and that is why we are calling on government to provide or take necessary measures that will cushion the effects”.

He said the programme, which was held in Zone three (Southern Kaduna) of the state, will also take place in other zones of the state. He said violent protests have caused more harm than good to the state in the past, and the need for everyone to collaborate and ensure that such does not happen again is imperative.

Other speakers at the event equally harped on the need to shun every form of violent protest no matter the situation.

Speakers during the programme include Comrade Michael Shekarau president Northern Christian Youths Association of Nigeria, Joel Wakili former vice chairman Kauru local government, and Hon. Ibrahim Bayero Zango of the Concerned Southern Kaduna Muslim society.

Others include, Tabitha Dogo of the Voice Aspiration of Women in the Society, Kyom Adam of Kaduna Liberation, Kogi Theophilus of SOKAPU Student Wing, Hon. Lawrence Clement and pastor Iliyasu Peter.
