Achraf Hakimi has admitted he is “not proud” of Morocco’s conduct during the towel controversy at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Members of the Morocco national football team were seen removing towels used by opposing goalkeepers, including Stanley Nwabali and Édouard Mendy, during wet conditions.
The actions drew widespread criticism, with suggestions they were intended to disrupt the goalkeepers’ grip.
Hakimi later acknowledged the incident, saying the team’s behaviour did not reflect well despite their strong showing in the tournament.
