Igbo Community Honours Governor Buni Over Inclusivity, Compassion

The Igbo Community Association in Yobe State has honoured Governor Mai Mala Buni for being an inclusive leader, compassionate and supportive to all cultural groups living and doing legitimate activities in the state.

The Association awarded the governor during the 2024 Igbo day as well as New Year Yam Festival attended by various Igbos including Eze Igbo III na Potiskum, HRH. Sunday P. Ezenwenyi among other personalities.

Presenting the award to the governor, the President General of the association in Damaturu Mr. Maazi Ndubuisi Nicholas Ifedoro said the Igbo community decided to honour the governor over his support to them since he assumed office in 2019. Ifedoro said governor Buni has done a lot through his inclusive style of leadership, love and support to the Igbo community across the state.

He further said, “We are grateful to the Yobe State government led by Hon Mai Mama Buni, the executive governor who through his inclusive style of leadership, simplicity, kindheartedness and compassion accommodated us in this land and made it conducive for us to do our legitimate business and interchange with the culture of the host community and other ethnic groups and non-indigenes living around us.

“We sincerely wish to acknowledge your giant strides in the development of Yobe State where you have touched almost every sector of the state’s economy which we the Igbo community are benefiting now,” he added.

He however requested for the allocation of shops in all the newly constructed modern markets across the state to the Igbo members, financial support for the completion of their hall among many others.

The Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Hon Abdullahi Bego who represented the governor at the occasion has while receiving the award said Yobe State government considers inclusivity and sense of belonging to all communities living in the state including Igbo as key to the realization of peace and unity.

Bego said being people who engage in legitimate business and contribute to the economic development of the state, the government will continue to work with associations and communities like Igbo for better progress.

“On behalf of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon Mai Mala Buni I would like to congratulate you and extend his felicitation and salutations on this very historic and importante occasion of the 2024 Igbo day and New Yam festival.
