The Senate President Godswill Akpabio has a challenger from within, as his daughter-in-law, Mrs Pat Ibanga Akpabio, has made good her intention to contest the Ikot Ekpene (Akwa Ibom Northwest) Senatorial seat.

Expressing her readiness for the big contest, Mrs Akpabio, who had since last year accused the Senate President of non-performance in the last three years, said she was ready for the fight for women and other underprivileged across the 10 local government areas of the senatorial district.

Consequently, she has bought the nomination and expression of interest forms of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring as she arrived at her country home of Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim LGA, to present the forms before her supporters, saying:

“Today, I arrived in Ukana Ikot Ntuen to a reception filled with love, unity, hope, and the spirit of the people.”

Thanking stakeholders, leaders, elders, youths and party supporters, Mrs. Akpabio, said:

“My deepest gratitude goes to the State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Uwemedimo Essien, the chapter chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, State Exco, party faithfuls, supporters, and every son and daughter of Akwa Ibom North West, who stood present as my nomination form for the Senate seat was officially handed over to me for the 2027 elections.

“I am deeply humbled by your confidence in me and by the overwhelming show of support for the Uyio (Uyo) Idung Movement and the IKPAB IDA Movement.

“A special appreciation to my husband, Chief Ibanga Udo Akpabio II, for standing firmly beside me with unwavering support and strength throughout this journey.

“To our people, I hear your cries, I feel your hopes, and I carry your dreams with responsibility and honour. I want to assure you that your labour of love, your trust, and your sacrifices will not be in vain. I will not disappoint you. Together, we will build a representation that truly listens and delivers the dividends of democracy back to our people.

“This movement is bigger than politics. This is the voice of the people rising, with purpose and service,” she stressed.
