Imo State government is to intensify efforts on the dredging of the Orashi River into an international seaport.

According to commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Chief (Mrs) Rubby Emele, the dredging which would soon commence is to further boost commerce, industrialisation, revenue generation and job creation in the state.

Emele disclosed this to newsmen in her office. Led by the special adviser (Networking) to Governor Hope Uzodimma, Adanna Chinyere Onwuzuruike said plans were equally in place by the state government to conduct council elections aborted during the COVID-19 pandemic, EndSARS protests and heinous activities of criminal elements in the state.

She said the state government was taking steps to resolve boundary disputes between some neighbouring communities through the boundary disputes resolution committee led by the state’s deputy governor, Professor Placid Njoku as well as issue certificates of recognition and staff of office to traditional rulers who were yet to receive them
