Ceasefire talks to end the current war in Gaza seem to have hit the rocks as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected Hamas’s proposed ceasefire terms, saying it is “total victory” that he wants.
Netanyahu sounded optimistic that Israel will defeat Hamas within months and has continued to rule out any negotiations with the Palestinian militant group.
Hamas had laid out a series of demands in response to an Israel-backed ceasefire proposal but the Israeli leader will have none of that.
He said negotiations with the group were “not going anywhere” and described their demands as “bizarre”.
Talks between negotiators are, however, continuing.
The Israeli authorities have vowed to crush Hamas in the ongoing war which started after Hamas attacked Israel and killed 1200 Israeli citizens and abducted over 200 others on October 7, 2023.
