The Kano Digital Industrial Park has reopened, a year after it was severely damaged during the August 2024 protests, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward digital inclusion and youth empowerment.

The facility, which now stands fully restored, was recommissioned by the federal government in collaboration with leading infrastructure provider, IHS Nigeria.

The minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, described the event as a symbol of resilience and renewal that reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to bridging the digital divide and creating economic opportunities, especially for young Nigerians in Northern Nigeria.

“The recommissioning of the Kano Digital Industrial Park is a powerful demonstration of what is possible when public and private sector actors unite behind a shared vision.

This facility is more than just infrastructure, it is a beacon of innovation, resilience, and opportunity for Northern Nigeria. IHS Nigeria’s swift intervention following the vandalism of this park reflects true partnership and corporate citizenship,” Tijani said.

The Kano Digital Industrial Park was originally designed as part of the government’s broader strategy to decentralize access to digital tools and training. It forms a key pillar of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, a flagship program aimed at equipping young Nigerians with globally competitive digital skills. Following the destruction of the facility during last year’s civil unrest, IHS Nigeria stepped in with a comprehensive restoration package that included upgrading infrastructure, rebuilding training labs, restoring power and internet connectivity, and re-furnishing learning spaces.

The chief operating officer, IHS Nigeria, Kazeem Oladepo, reaffirmed the firm’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s digital economy through public-private collaboration.

“Our decision to sponsor the refurbishment of the Kano Digital Park is rooted in our commitment to empowering young Nigerians with the skills to thrive in the digital age. We are proud to partner with the Ministry to restore this park as a hub of innovation and opportunity for the Kano community. Supporting initiatives like this and the Ilorin Innovation Hub, reflects our long-term strategy to foster inclusive development across Nigeria,” Oladepo said.

Also in attendance was the executive vice chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, who emphasised the park’s strategic importance to Nigeria’s digital future.

“This is a landmark moment in our mission to accelerate ICT innovation and empower the next generation of digital pioneers. We remain committed to creating a thriving digital ecosystem where no one is left behind,” Maida said.
