Kano State government has provided modern equipment to the state Roads Traffic Department to enable it to cope with modernity.
The director of the department, Alhaji Tasiu Gambo Garo, disclosed this to newsmen when he spoke on the activities of the organisation.
Garo applauded the efforts by Kano State governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, who he said responded to the request by the department on the need for the upgrade of its equipment to face modern challenges.
“I’m proud to say that Kano State Road Traffic Department can now compete favourably with its peers across the nation,” he said.
Garo explained that the driving school has been equipped with driving simulators for the training of drivers and other staff of the department.
He pointed out that drivers from MDAs and private companies were being trained with ease, urging such agencies and companies to patronise the department’s services by sending their drivers for training.
The director also stated that general renovations of the Department Administrative building and other staff offices had been carried out with the building of additional office blocks for the staff convenience as well as refurbishing of operational vehicles and towing vans.
On enforcement, Alhaji Tasiu Gambo Garo said at least one hundred vehicles with road worthiness challenges are being detained monthly across eighteen Zonal Offices of the Department in the 44 local government areas of the state.
He expressed optimism that if passed into law by Kano State House of Assembly, the Motor Vehicle Administrative Bill would go a long way in enhancing the operational capacity of the Department.
The V I O Director then urged motorists to always renew their vehicles particulars as and when due to avoid unnecessary encounters with the Vehicle Inspection Officers.
