The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of N8,528,203,682.58 billion for the execution of key infrastructure, health, education and social welfare projects across the state.

The approvals were announced by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 37th Executive Council meeting held on January 16, 2026, at Malam Aminu Kano House, Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

According to Waiya, the funds will cover compensation for properties affected by the construction of a 5km dualised road in Bagwai Local Government, construction of an orphanage hostel at Nasarawa Children’s Home, and provision of clearance and access roads in Shanono Local Government Area.

Other projects approved include the construction of an additional office complex and the extension of the perimeter fence at the Primary Healthcare Board; reinforced concrete drainage and interlocking works in Ayagi–Aisami, Dala LGA; and the construction of a surface-dressed road from Chiromawa to Garun Babba in Garun Malam LGA.

The Council also approved funds for the reconstruction and renovation of Rogo General Hospital, which was damaged by fire, the general renovation of GJSS Tatsawarki in Kumbotso LGA, compensation for farmlands affected by the construction of five small earth dams across five LGAs, and the construction of the Arewa Knot and multi-tiered fountain at Alfurqan and Baban Gwari roundabouts.

In the water and health sectors, approvals were granted for the supply of aluminium sulphate (alum) for six months in 2026 and the procurement of a CT Scan machine for Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.

On policy matters, the Council expressed deep dismay over the death of a female patient at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, where surgical scissors were reportedly left in her abdomen. The Council described the incident as grave negligence, assured that investigations would be pursued to a logical conclusion, and extended condolences to the family.

The Council also approved the phased implementation of the AKK Gas Pipeline industrial layout in Tamburawa and endorsed comprehensive upgrades of facilities at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Karaye to improve the safety and welfare of corps members.
