The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education, healthcare, protection and equal opportunities irrespective of gender, disability, religion, ethnicity or socio-economic background.
The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Garo, stated this on recently while representing Governor Abba Yusuf at the 2026 International Children’s Day celebration held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
Garo said the theme, “Future Now, Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child.” highlighted the need to invest in children through education, care and protection, stressing that inclusion was a fundamental right and a responsibility owed to every child.
He noted that children remained the foundation of sustainable development and future leadership, adding that the state government had continued to implement programmes aimed at ensuring no child was left behind.
According to him, the administration had prioritised education, strengthened child protection mechanisms, improved healthcare delivery and created an environment where children could thrive.
The Deputy Governor urged children to embrace hard work, honesty, respect and patriotism, assuring them that their contributions were important to national development.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina S. Abdullahi, commended the administration for expanding social protection interventions for vulnerable children and persons with disabilities.
She called on the governor to inaugurate the Kano State Child Protection Committee to enhance the implementation of the Child Protection Law, maintaining that, such a move would help address challenges including child begging and the plight of street-connected children.

She also appealed for the passage of an Orphanage Bill to strengthen measures against child abuse, trafficking and illegal orphanages.

The guest speaker, Dr Sulaiman Isyaku, stressed the importance of child nutrition, saying proper care and feeding were critical to building healthy children and achieving meaningful inclusion.
