Kogi State House of Assembly has tasked Nigerian youths to be more innovative and keep breaking records for the country among comity of nations.

The member representing Ajaokuta constituency, Hon Abu Onoruoiza Jibrin, gave the charge on the floor of the house yesterday while drawing the attention of his colleagues to one

Abdulfattah El-Okene who lives in Ganaja village and had broken the Guinness World Record by having undertaken about 142hrs of ironing marathon defeating the holder of the title Gareth Sanders who had 100hours record.

Hon. Jibrin, who noted that leaders in the country should encourage youths that are making the country proud and not engage them in thuggery, ballot box snatching, and other social vices, said the record broken by the Kogi indigene remain a testimony that all hope is not lost for Nigeria as a nation.

While intimating the house that the Kogi indigene who had wanted to achieve 200hours record could not achieve the target  due to ill-health he described his achievement as astonishing, commendable and acceptable.

“This is really astonishing and acceptable. The people of Ajaokuta Local Government and the entire people of Kogi State are indeed amazed with this development. What he has done is simply bring Kogi State in a positive light. Activities such as this are being done in the cities like Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos but now Kogi State will be mentioned among comity of record breaking.

“The present state is that the young man has broken the record. The record initially was 100hrs. Our son hit that two days ago and began creating a new record. I am pleased to inform the house that he added 42 hours to make him world record holder of 142 hours as we speak. Though, he has a target of 200 hours, unfortunately for reasons such as health, as advised by his team that he should stand down when he gets to 142 hours. It is record breaking at our bus top.

“As members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, we will always emphasise the need for youths out there to advertise themselves to the world for good and not for bad. Gone were the days when youths used to be known for thuggery and many other social vices. I for one have never sponsored thugs to win elections.

“Throughout my campaign till now, I won elections through the legitimate process. So, it is time to keep telling the masses from the onset to support dreams and not to break dreams. As lawmakers, we don’t want to know where youths are in prisons, arrested or messed up in the society. We must keep promoting innovations and support those who break records for our state and Nigeria as a nation,” he stated.
