Indigenous oil and gas downstream company MEA Energy, said it has adopted the revolutionary SmartPump technology to automate its filling stations across Nigeria, giving customers the hope of fast and easier self-service satisfaction.

SmartPump technology is developed by Petrosoft, a global provider of end-to-end retail technology solutions.

It offers specialised automation for fuel stations, providing real-time data visibility and operational control to downstream energy companies.

The Nigeria-based MEA Energy Trading Limited which is also a subsidiary of a prominent United Arab Emirates-based commodities and trade finance consortium, said it has utmost trust in the automation technology to power its rapidly expanding network of retail fuel and LPG stations across Nigeria.

Chief commercial officer of MEA Energy, Chris Vassilopoulos, said the partnership means his company and Petrosoft are setting a new benchmark for the “Station of the Future” in Africa, combining UAE-backed financial stability with Nigeria’s cutting-edge technological innovation to power growth.

He added: “Following an exhaustive global search for a technology partner capable of meeting the rigorous demands of the African energy market, MEA Energy identified Petrosoft’s SmartPump solution as the gold standard for automation, transparency, and operational efficiency.

“MEA Energy operates as a fully integrated player in the energy sector, spanning roles as an importer, wholesaler, retailer, and logistics provider via ocean, coastal, and overland freight.

“As we scale our retail footprint, the integration of SmartPump Technology will provide real-time oversight of fuel inventory, sales data, and pump precision, ensuring that MEA Energy continues to deliver world-class service to Nigerian consumers.

“Our mission at MEA Energy is to bring international standards of excellence to the Nigerian downstream sector and by partnering with Petrosoft and deploying the SmartPump Technology, we are not just buying software; we are investing in a transparent ecosystem that eliminates leakages, optimises our supply chain, while guaranteeing our customers receive accurate dispensing at every visit,” he added.

Transforming the African Downstream Landscape

Chief executive officer of Petrosoft, Dr Joshua Denila, said the adoption of Petrosoft SmartPump by MEA Energy highlights a significant shift in how downstream operators in Africa manage high-volume retail assets, because the technology was specially designed to be resilient and adaptable, and engineered to perform in diverse environments, making it the ideal solution for the burgeoning Nigerian energy infrastructure.

He highlighted key benefits of the SmartPump system to include: Zero-Loss Integrity: Advanced calibration monitoring and real-time tank gauging help eliminate product shrinkage and unauthorised siphoning, which are critical challenges in regional logistics; Remote Management: Operators can monitor station performance, change prices remotely, and audit inventory from any location via a secure cloud interface, reducing the need for constant physical site visits; Integrated Logistics: For companies like MEA Energy that manage their own tanker truck fleets, SmartPump bridges the gap between the depot and the nozzle, ensuring every liter is accounted for from transit to sale; Enhanced Customer Trust: Automated, tamper-proof dispensing ensures that consumers get exactly what they pay for, building long-term brand loyalty in a competitive market.

Petrosoft prides itself as a global leader in back-office and retail automation.
