The Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief (Mrs.) Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has thrown her weight behind the upcoming Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign, urging caregivers and market women to ensure their children receive the life-saving vaccine.

She made this call while receiving an Advocacy Team from the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS) led by Dr. Nihinlola Mabogunje and Dr. M.Z. Mahmud.

Commending the Federal Government for integrating the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine into Nigeria’s immunisation schedule, Tinubu-Ojo described the move as a major step toward protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

She stressed that Measles and Rubella remain serious health threats in the country, often leading to birth defects, disabilities such as blindness and deafness, and even death.

She further emphasised the importance of timely government funding to ensure the success of the campaign, calling on the Federal, State, and Local Governments to fulfill their financial commitments, including the $6.5 million from the Federal Government and N500 per child from states and LGAs.

Encouraging widespread participation, the Iyaloja-General assured that vaccination centres would be made available in marketplaces, and she personally pledged to mobilise and sensitise market women about the campaign.

The Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign is set to commence in October 2025 and will target children aged nine months to 15 years. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to visit the nearest vaccination centre during the campaign and continue routine immunisation at health centers afterward.
