‘Nigerian Scientists Working To Upgrade Our Beverages To Global Standard’

A former vice chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun Adebayo, has revealed that Nigerian scientists are intensifying efforts to restructure the nation’s local beverages to meet global standards and achieve international recognition.

Adebayo, an accomplished researcher who has extensively studied popular Nigerian drinks such as Zobo, Kunu, palm wine, and tiger nut beverages, reaffirmed that these local products can be optimised to enhance wellness, boost immunity, and energise the body.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja during a presentation of wellness products by QNET Africa, he highlighted the significant health benefits the beverages could offer.

The event drew notable attendees, including QNET Nigeria’s General Manager, Mr. Ayokunmi Solesi, and QNET Africa’s Regional Strategy Manager, Mr. Bernie Gaksch.

Adebayo, an internationally recognised Professor of Biochemistry, disclosed that a scientific journal detailing the research findings will soon be published.

He added that subsequent publications will present even more comprehensive insights into the nutritional and medicinal properties of the beverages.

He emphasized that achieving global acceptance for these indigenous drinks could unlock enormous economic value, driving business growth for millions of local producers and positively impacting Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

However, Adebayo cautioned that the beverages and related wellness products are not cures for diseases.

He urged individuals with existing medical conditions to seek proper medical attention from health professionals.

He explained that the beverages are formulated to support immunity, promote healthy living, combat fatigue, reduce exhaustion and depression, and help lower cholesterol levels. Some of the natural plant ingredients, he added, have already been processed into teas and other energising wellness drinks.

Adebayo also noted that the wellness products showcased at the event—ranging from air-filter devices to branded wristwatches, pendants, and natural plant-based items—have been certified by regulatory bodies such as the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Adebayo, who serves on the Scientific Advisory Board and Council of QNET, expressed confidence that Nigerians will soon appreciate the full wellness benefits of these products and the significant global strides being made through the country’s wellness innovations.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Gaksch cautioned against the misuse of the products, stating that they are strictly for individual wellness and healthy lifestyles.

He added that, for frequent phone users, the pendants help reduce the impact of radiation, noise, and radio waves, energising individuals who wear them.
