Oneway Launches AI-powered Retail Platform In Abuja

Nigerian technology startup, Oneway, has officially launched its first AI-powered “smart retailer” platform in Abuja, introducing a system designed to transform how customers shop and how retailers manage their businesses.

The debut took place at Lami Spot Restaurant, Maraba, on the outskirts of the capital city, where the platform was deployed for the first time.

By combining mobile self-checkout, AI-driven inventory management, and integrated point-of-sale (POS) tools, Oneway aims to save shoppers time, boost store efficiency, and guarantee secure transactions.

According to a statement from the company, which was made available to LEADERSHIP, the platform directly tackles frustrations that plague traditional shopping — from long queues to stockouts and tedious manual reconciliation.

“For years, queues have swallowed time, inventory has been a guessing game, stockouts have left shelves looking like mouths with missing teeth, and manual reconciliation has dragged on long after closing hours. Shoppers lose patience; retailers lose money,” the company noted.

With Oneway’s system, customers can scan items while shopping, view their totals in real time, and make instant payments without standing in line.

Retailers, on the other hand, gain access to live inventory monitoring, sales tracking, and multi-branch management tools on a single dashboard. Built-in analytics turn raw data into actionable insights for better decision-making.

Oneway was co-founded by Ogbonna Vitalis and Kenechukwu Arionye, who said the idea behind the platform was to deliver a single, connected solution instead of fragmented fixes.

“We set out to solve everyday problems for both customers and retailers,” Vitalis explained. “Our system saves shoppers time and gives businesses the tools to operate more efficiently.”

Arionye described the Abuja launch as just the beginning, stressing that the platform’s ultimate goal is to bring world-class retail management tools to African businesses without the cost and complexity often tied to foreign solutions.

At the center of Oneway’s platform is a strong focus on cybersecurity. The system is led by Onyekachi Eze, a CISSP-certified Head of Cybersecurity, and is built with advanced encryption, real-time threat monitoring, and strict access controls.

“Trust is as important as technology,” Eze said. “We designed Oneway to meet high security standards so that customers and retailers can use it with confidence.”

With the rollout in Abuja, Oneway is positioning itself as a continental leader in smart retail solutions, aiming to help African retailers operate at global standards while offering consumers faster, safer, and more efficient shopping experiences.

The startup’s long-term ambition is to expand across Nigeria and beyond, creating a robust retail ecosystem powered by artificial intelligence.
