Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala has completed a transfer from Barcelona Femeni to American side Bay FC.
The former Arsenal and Liverpool player has decided to swap the Catalan giants for the Californian club and signed a deal with Bay FC until 2026, with an option to extend the contract by one more season. She leaves Barca after five years with the club, having initially joined on loan at the end of January 2019.
Explaining her decision to leave Spain for the United States, the 29-year-old told the Attacking Third podcast: “I stayed five years in Barcelona and that’s the longest I’ve stayed in a club, to be honest. I feel I just want to change, I want to try something different. I just want to have fun and also when I was presented with the project of this club, I liked it and I decided to go for it.”
Oshoala won two Women’s Champions League titles and one Liga F crown during her time with Barcelona. She was also named the African Women’s Footballer of the Year on six occasions. She leaves the club having scored six times in nine league matches this season as well as one goal from two Champions League games.
Bay FC were founded in April 2023 and are set to begin their debut National Women’s Soccer League campaign this year. The new NWSL season kicks off in March when they take on fellow Californian side Angel City FC.
