Over 100 Int'l Elite Athletes For Inaugural Enugu City Marathon

Enugu State is set to become a focal point for athletics as it prepares to welcome over 100 international elite athletes for the inaugural Enugu City International Marathon on May 3, 2025. This landmark event aims to establish itself as the largest road race in the history of southeastern Nigeria, drawing participants from around the globe alongside top Nigerian runners.

Organized by Nilayo Sports Management Company, the marathon is positioned to be a significant addition to the state’s sporting calendar, showcasing a race of global standards. The Enugu State Government is fully committed to ensuring the event’s success, with Governor Peter Mbah emphasizing the goal of promoting Enugu as a premier tourist and commercial destination in the region.

“We want to use this race to tell our own unique story and showcase Enugu as a tourist and commerce destination in the South East,” Governor Mbah stated. He expressed enthusiasm for the event, assuring that the state is well-prepared to welcome both international and local athletes, highlighting the city’s beauty and vibrant culture.

Nilayo Sports Management, renowned for organizing prestigious events such as the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, has pledged to deliver a world-class experience for participants. The Enugu State Government is also enhancing the marathon experience by incorporating a complete entertainment package, featuring a musical performance from one of Nigeria’s top artists, Kcee.
