The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared zero-tolerance for anti-party activities, insisting that members must demonstrate total loyalty to the party’s constitution and leadership.
PDP national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who made this known yesterday at a press briefing in Abuja, described the gathering as a show of unity and readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the PDP had overcome internal challenges through dialogue and reconciliation but would now strictly enforce its rules against disloyalty.
“What we will not take is disloyalty to this party. It is going to be zero tolerance, and we demand it,” Ologunagba stated.
He explained that the National Working Committee had invoked Section 59 of the PDP constitution to discipline erring members, with possible sanctions including suspension or expulsion.
Dismissing fears that recent defections were weakening the PDP, Ologunagba said many defectors had political roots in the party and could return.
He added that legal steps were already underway to reclaim seats lost through unconstitutional defections.
The PDP spokesman commended the party’s governors for transforming their states into “oases of development” through projects in agriculture, infrastructure, education, and health, which have attracted local and international partnerships.
He said preparations for the party’s national convention in November were on course, promising a transparent process that would set a benchmark for internal democracy in Nigeria.
“Our focus now is unseating the APC in 2027. Nigerians remember our golden years of governance, and we are ready to offer that leadership again,” he said.
Ologunagba stressed that the PDP remains the only political party with structures in every ward across Nigeria and one that prioritises the welfare of citizens over personal or sectional interests.
He confirmed that a caretaker committee is in place for the South-South zone pending congresses to fill vacant positions, and dismissed reports of preconditions for the national convention.
