The much-anticipated Corporate Stars League has officially begun with its maiden edition, featuring thrilling matches between major corporate entities.
PenCom faced off against the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, while Norrenberger took on MTN in the opening fixtures.
This tournament aims to create opportunities for key stakeholders in the working sector to engage, network, and improve their fitness levels, ultimately boosting productivity. Matchday one started with explosive encounters that set the tone for the competition.
PenCom launched their campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over NSIA, propelling them to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Norrenberger and MTN kept spectators on the edge of their seats with a captivating match that belied their ages. The high-octane clash ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
Speaking at the event, Olumide Aturu, Managing Director of 5Stars Football, the organiser of the Corporate Stars League, highlighted the importance of the tournament.
“We noticed a gap that needed to be filled. We can’t allow it to continue to grow because there is a teeming population that craves the opportunities this competition provides. We hope to achieve our goals by the end,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ralph Agalama, the captain and man of the match between Norrenberger and MTN, reflected on their missed opportunities and inability to maintain their lead.
“From the beginning, I believed we were going to win this game, but unfortunately, we ended with a draw. We played better and missed some glaring chances. Next time, we will be better and hopefully score more goals to protect our lead,” he said.
Abubakar Musa of PenCom praised the organization and atmosphere of the venue while expressing gratitude for the win and his goal.
“I’m really excited to be on the scoresheet for the organization and to be part of this victory. We hope to build on our win in the next match and hopefully go very far in the competition,” he remarked.
