According to a post on the verified X handle of the Nigerian Army, Major General Markus Kangye, the Special Guest of Honour, highlighted the critical role of responsible social media use in promoting national security. He warned against the dangers of misinformation and urged influencers to act as peace ambassadors, emphasizing their influence in shaping public perception and trust between the military and civil populace. He encouraged participants to utilize social media to support the Army’s non-kinetic operations and enhance community engagement.

In his address, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, stated that the seminar was aimed at addressing the complexities of social media in a volatile security environment. He added that it was a collective responsibility to ensure national security and to combat fake news in the country. The CCMA expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja for his unwavering support in making the event a success.

During the event, the acting governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, emphasised the importance of educating social media influencers, bloggers, and youths to enhance social impact and promote accurate information. He acknowledged the Nigerian Army’s commitment to peace and security, noting the beneficial partnership between the state government and the military.

The resource persons during the occasion, Dr Ehiz Odigie, spoke on leveraging social media for national security, while Mrs Zainab Olabisi Saka discussed the essence of collaboration among law enforcement to address cybersecurity concerns.
