Police Arrest 12 For Alleged Vandalism, Theft Of Electrical Equipment In Ekiti

Twelve persons have been arrested by the operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command for alleged vandalisation and theft of electrical equipment.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command apprehended the suspects in collaboration with some local security outfits.

The arrested suspects include Kabiru Abubakar, 20; Kamarudeen Adekunle, 38; Sukurana Amodu, 26; Atiku Abubakar, 24; Ibrahim Milasi, 26 and Jafaru Iliasu, 24 years.

Others are Nasiru Yahuza, 25; Muhammadu Aminu, 25; ISah Zaiyanu, 32; Abubakar Rabiu, 21; Ibrahim Rasaq, 27; and Yusuf Usman, 25.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Sunday Abutu, speaking on the arrest, said serious manhunt were launched to apprehend the perpetrators with the view to arrest, prosecute and cripple the activities of criminals in the state.

Abutu said the effort yielded positive result as the operatives on February 21, 2025, at about 13:30hrs, swooped on their criminal hideouts within and outside Ado-Ekiti, where the suspects were arrested.

All the suspects confessed to committing the crime of vandalisation and stealing during investigation.

Abutu listed the items recovered from the suspects as rolls of armoured cables, recline cables, aluminium conductors, one transformer feeder pillar, rolls of binding wire, electrical cables and generator parts.

The police spokesman said the suspects shall be arraigned accordingly.

Abutu added that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, warned all criminally-minded individuals in the state to repent and turn a new leaf, vowing that criminal activities will no longer be tolerated in the state.
