The public relations officer of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga identified her boyfriend as one Chibuike Ogbu, aged 24.

In a statement yesterday, SP Ikenga said that the command’s operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu in Oyi local government area of the state, arrested Nmesoma and her boyfriend, Chibuike, following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered their evil schemes.

He stated that investigations revealed that the suspects actually demanded ₦15 million ransom, and after negotiation, ₦3 million was transferred into the victim’s account.

He said that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has expressed deep concern over the development describing it as a sad reflection of the rising moral decay in the society where young people are increasingly resorting to criminality for selfish gains.

Ikenga said that the state police boss urged parents, guardians and religious leaders to intensify efforts in inculcating discipline, integrity and sound values in their children and wards.

The CP also warned youths against engaging in self-destructive ventures, stressing that the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals no matter how cleverly disguised their schemes might be.
