Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of yet-to-be ascertained number of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on the East-West Road in Rivers State.

The abduction of the corps members came barely 24 hours after chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, placed a bounty of N1 million on a 22-year-old Onuigwe Wodi, for involvement in the killing of policemen, cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery on the East-West Road.

Lloyd also announced the withholding of the salaries of operatives of the Emohua Vigilante Service (EMOVIS) following their inability to check rising crime rate in the local government area.

The youth corps members were returning to Port Harcourt from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ondo State, when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers hijacked their bus in the Emohua axis of the East-West Road on Tuesday night.

The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that some youth corps members who escaped from the attack had been rescued.

Iringe-Koko stated that tactical teams have been deployed to the area to ensure the safe release of the abducted youth corps members.

She however did not disclose the number of persons who were rescued as well as the number of persons that were kidnapped.
