Household appliances, documents and other properties belonging to a widow, Mrs. Grace Inya has been razed down by fire in Unwana Community in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi State.
Confirming the fire incidents to LEADERSHIP Friday shortly after an on-site visit to the scene, the chairman of the local government area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi, expressed regret over the unfortunate incident and noted that the remote cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained.
He maintained that the 4 bedroom bungalow was completely razed down adding that the blocks of the walls has been badly affected and may not be strong enough to still carry the building.
Nwachi while sympathizing with the widow directed his special assistant on works, Engr. Abraham Ibiam to immediately commence the rehabilitation and reconstruction work on the building and to ensure that the work is completed as soon as possible.
He also directed Engr. Ibiam to articulate all that will be needed for the project and submit to him adding that the reconstruction work on the building will also include the roofing and other facilities that will make the building habitable.
The Council boss further disclosed that the intervention is part of the council’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of the state’s indigent members and promised to continue to render assistance to the people of the community.
He expressed joy that no life was lost in the unfortunate inferno and called on the people of the area to be conscious of their environment and activities especially during the harmattan period to avert a reoccurrence of fire disaster in the area.
Mrs. Grace Inya, while narrating her ordeal to the council boss expressed shock over the incident.
The widow appreciated the council chairman for the intervention adding that she lost most of her household equipment and other items in the inferno.
