Qatar Denounces Iran For Attacks On Civilian Areas, Rejects Explanation

The Qatari government has condemned Iran over missile attacks on its territory, stressing that Iran’s explanation on the attacks is not acceptable, insisting that evidence shows the attacks struck civilian areas and key infrastructure inside Qatar.

This development was made known during a phone conversation between Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, amid rising regional tensions.

According to a statement issued by the Qatar News Agency, the Iranian minister had argued that the missile strikes were directed at American interests and were not intended to target the State of Qatar.

However, Al Thani firmly countered his claim, stressing that available evidence indicated that the strikes affected civilian and residential areas within Qatar, including locations near Hamad International Airport.

According to the Qatari prime minister the attacks also threatened critical infrastructure and industrial facilities, including installations linked to the country’s liquefied natural gas production—an industry vital to the nation’s economy and global energy supply.

Al Thani described the development as a “grave escalation,” adding that the strikes constituted a clear violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a breach of international law.

He also warned that these actions capable of endangering civilian populations and strategic facilities cannot be justified under any circumstances.

He reiterated Doha’s commitment to regional stability and diplomacy but emphasized that any threat to the country’s territorial integrity would be treated with utmost seriousness.

Iran had unleashed a wave of missile attacks on some Middle East countries especially the Gulf States in retaliation to the ongoing military assault by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic that started on Saturday February 28, 2026.

The strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his wife and about 45 other senior officials of the regime in Tehran a few hours after the hostility started.

Iran had threatened that it would intensify attacks on US assets in the Middle East but the indiscriminate manner in which it attacked civilian assets in the region raises serious questions about its real intentions.

The rejection of Iran’s explanation by the Qatari authorities highlights the growing strain in relations between Tehran and several Gulf States as tensions across the Middle East continue to intensify, raising apprehension of escalation of the conflict in the region.
