Finally, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has completed the repairs to the vandalised 330-kilovolt power tower that transmits electricity to Gombe State and other states in the northeastern region.

LEADERSHIP recalls that the tower along Jos-Gombe road, which connects Gombe State and parts of some north-eastern states, including Bauchi and Taraba, to the national grid, was vandalised over six weeks ago, throwing the entire Gombe State and the other affected areas into darkness.
However, the company later managed to supply one to two hours of electricity to Gombe daily by connecting the state to another transmission line.

But yesterday, TCN announced encouraging news to the residents of the affected states, notifying them that it had completed the repairs of the collapsed and vandalised tower.
The company’s general manager of public affairs, Ndidi Nbah, in a press release, said the repairs were completed on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, adding that the tower was now ready for the transmission of bulk electricity.

“Initially, TCN had promised to complete the repairs and restore supply by May 27, 2024. However, the collapse of the fourth tower during the re-stringing process delayed the completion. The four towers have since been repaired, and the line is now ready for bulk power transmission.

“TCN appreciates the patience and support of the governors and people in the North-eastern part of the nation during the period of the tower reconstruction work.”, he said in the press statement.
