Residents of Gaa Sembo in Agunjin of Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State have deserted the community following an attack on the community by bandits on Thursday.
Official sources told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the attackers were cattle rustlers.
“Those who attacked communities in Ifelodun and Isin local government areas were cattle rustlers and they have been reportedly neutralised by security operatives who chased them after the attacks,” the source said.
Our correspondent gathered that 13 persons were abducted from three communities in Ifelodun and Isin local government areas in Kwara South.
It was gathered that six people were kidnapped at Gaa Sembo, Agunjin, three were kidnapped at Gaa Idera, both in Ifelodun local government area while four were kidnapped at Odu Ore in Isin local government area.
Security sources said three abductees at Gaa Idera were however rescued by security operatives.
The sources confirmed that Gaa Sebo, Agunjin had been deserted by residents who relocated to more safer places.
The state commissioner of police, Adekimi Ojo, said, “Yes, some people were kidnapped, I can confirm, we are on their trail,” he said.
Ojo blamed the wave of kidnapping in most communities in the state on local collaborators.
He cited where a victim was lured to a cashew farm by a close associate who invited kidnappers to seize him from the farm.
“Luckily, the victim escaped around Egbe in Kogi State and on return, he alerted people of the community. The suspect was arrested and in the process of carrying out investigation, he slumped and died,” he said.
