Amidst rising political tension in Rivers State following the face-off between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, the State’s deputy governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Odu’s defection came more than one month after Fubara and majority of the State and federal lawmakers from the State dumped the PDP for the APC, a development that initially created doubts over where her loyalty actually lies.
But, addressing stakeholders during a tour of the six zones of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state on Sunday, the deputy governor said she has completed her registration formalities at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11.
She stated that the e-registration into the APC was ongoing, following the declaration of Governor Fubara of joining the party a few weeks ago and urged the people of the area to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu and the governor by registering massively with the APC.
“The move is to further strengthen the support base of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, noting that six zonal meetings had already been held to facilitate the actualisation of the plan.
“Today, I came to sensitise the people, and everywhere we went, there were large crowds who came out to receive us. They said wherever I go, they will go with me, and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will go.
“You can see the joy and happiness. I have touched all the six zones — Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni,” Prof. Odu stated.
