The Senators’ Wives Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is mourning the passing of Professor Janet Plang, one of its members. The association described her death as a profound loss to the nation at large.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, the president of SWAN, Dr. (Mrs.) Unoma Akpabio expressed deep sorrow over the death of Professor Plang, who was the wife of Senator Diket Plang.
She hailed the late professor as a “beloved and distinguished sister, a woman of grace, intellect, and compassion — a true pillar in our circle and beyond.”
Dr. Akpabio highlighted Professor Plang’s enduring legacy in the academic world, particularly through her contributions to the University of Jos and Nigerian academia.
“Her remarkable life was marked by compassion, humility, and unwavering dedication to knowledge and service. She left a lasting impact wherever she went,” Akpabio said.
On behalf of the association, Dr. Akpabio offered prayers for the repose of Professor Plang’s soul and called on God to grant her husband, children, and all loved ones the strength to bear what she called an “irreplaceable loss.”
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement read. “Let us continue to keep her family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Professor Janet Plang’s passing has drawn tributes from across Nigeria’s academic and political spheres, underscoring the void her absence has created in education and public service.
