The Niger Delta Youth Parliament (NDYP) has urged the federal government to as a matter of urgency, resuscitate all the moribund refineries in Nigeria and issue new licenses to individuals or groups of individuals to build more across all the geo-political zone in the country while strengthening the modular refineries.
They also honoured a ministerial designate and member, House of Representatives representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency who is also the chairman, House Committee on Works, Hon Bunmi Tunji-Ojo with ‘Niger Delta most outstanding legislator award’, thus declared him as ‘National Asset’.
In a statement issued by its speaker yesterday, Rt. Hon. Ifon Daniel Samuel commended the government and the bold step taken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the recent removal of fuel subsidy with a view to repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
This is as he urged Tinubu to embrace liberalisation and encourage establishment of local modular refineries, hence engaging illegal local refiners for international training.
“The state government should establish Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers States with the following abbreviations – AISOPADEC, BASOPADEC and RISOPADEC respectfully, to take care of the Developmental challenges of those areas.
“Nigeria’s educational systems should be strengthened and encouraged in terms of infrastructure and teachers’ welfare, noting that this approach will secure a better future for Nigeria’s economy,” he said.
