Germany midfielder Thomas Muller confirmed on Saturday that he was set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Muller, who holds the all-time Bayern appearance record with 743 matches, will bring an end to his 25-year association with the German giants, having joined the academy in 2000.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Muller said, “The club has consciously decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season.
“Even if this did not correspond to my personal wishes, it is important that the club follows its convictions. I respect this step, which the board and supervisory board certainly did not take lightly.”
The 35-year-old made his Bayern senior debut in 2008 and has won 12 Bundesliga titles, including 11 in a row.
He also has two Champions League wins and six DFB-Pokal titles during his 17 seasons at Bayern.
Muller is third on the all-time goal-scorer list for Bayern with 247 goals behind Gerd Muller (565) and Robert Lewandowski (344).
