The chairman, Association of Local Governments, Imo State and Transmission Committee chairman of Oru West LGA, Willie Okolieogwo and Barrister Tony Umezurike from Owerri North LGA have announced the readiness of the Imo State government to conduct the much-awaited local government council elections.
This was made known during a press conference held at the ALGON secretariat in Owerri.
Hon Okolieogwo attributed the delay to the just concluded gubernatorial election, stating that with the election over, time has been set aside for local council elections to proceed.
He stressed that mechanisms have been put in place for the smooth conduct of the exercise and called on the citizenry to join hands with the state government to realise the project.
Hon Okolieogwu called on the people to always note the importance of substantiated claims in cases of alleged irregularities, noting that dissatisfaction often arises when results do not align with opponents’ expectations.
Commending Governor Hope Uzodimma’s widespread support across all the 27 local governments, the chairman acknowledged that the electorate’s clear preference contributed to the governor’s victory.
He praised the governor’s sportsmanship and urged collaborative efforts among all election participants for the state’s advancement.
Addressing concerns about food security, the chairman reassured the public, highlighting the administration’s distribution of free fertilizers to farmers across the 27 local governments.
On matters of insecurity, infrastructure and local government fund allocations, Hon Okolieogwo clarified the federal government’s direct allocation of local government funds and called for their appropriate utilisation.
