As the state residents joined people across the globe to mark St Valentine’s Day, Osun residents cautioned people, particularly youths, against immorality and excesses.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP about the annual festival to celebrate romantic love, friendship, and admiration, Pastor Lawrence Omotayo Agbesanya of CAC, Glorious Arena English Assembly, Osogbo, charged Nigerians to emulate the true love of God, who gave His all for the well-being of humanity.
The cleric noted that the celebration of Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday this year is symbolic, adding that it calls for total cleansing of human nature and extending love to our fellow beings, particularly those in need.
Agbesanya charged parents to be interested in what their children and wards do today because, according to him, the careless handling of today may have long-lasting adverse effects on their lives tomorrow.
Speaking in the same vein, Alhaji Rasaq ‘Remi Adejumobis cautioned youths not to, in the spirit of enjoying themselves today, destroy their lives in the name of celebrating Valentine.
He specifically charged couples and family members to renew their love to impact society, saying that the moral decadence manifesting in society is the product of homes that have derailed societal norms.
Meanwhile, traders in gift items in Osogbo, the state capital, recorded a significant increase in sales celebrating Valentine’s Day.
A trader at the popular Orisunbare market who deals in gift items, Mrs Nike Amusan, lamented low patronage due to the country’s current economic situation and said people had started coming around to buy items at the time of filing this report.
