Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has revealed that she underwent a permanent birth control procedure more than two decades ago, explaining that the decision was part of her personal choice about family and motherhood.
The actress made the disclosure during a conversation on her YouTube platform, Shaffy Bello TV, where she spoke openly about opting for tubal ligation, a surgical procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy.
According to Bello, she decided to undergo the procedure after having two children, noting that she was certain about the size of the family she wanted.
“My ex-husband had to beg me to have another one. I didn’t want a lot of children. I wanted to stop,” she said.
She explained that despite requests from her former husband for more children, she remained firm in her decision.
The actress also described the medical process, stating that the surgery was carried out through her navel and permanently prevented further conception.
“They went through my navel, went in there, did what they needed to do, and they tied it up. That was it. They closed my eggs,” she said.
Speaking light heartedly about the outcome of the procedure, Bello noted that any pregnancy at this stage in her life would feel almost miraculous.
“I’ve always said to myself that after tying my tubes, if I get pregnant, I will feel like Mary; it’s a holy child,” she joked.
Shaffy Bello, known for her strong on-screen presence and outspoken views, has remained a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry for decades.
