Yobe SEMA Supports Gashu’a Varsity Inferno, Farmer/Herder Crisis Victims, Others

In compliance with the directives of Governor Mai Mala Buni towards supporting victims of an inferno at the Federal University Gashu’a, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has supported the affected students with food and non-food items.

The female hostel of the Federal University Gashu’a had on the 23rd March 2024 gutted by fire resulting in the loss of life of one of the students, many others got injured while properties of the students were also lost.
The executive secretary of SEMA, Dr Mohammed Goje has while speaking on the support to the institutions said items were provided in response to the directives of governor Mai Mala Buni towards the plight of the female students who lost their belongings as a result of fire outbreak.

Goje said the items provided to the victims were not meant to pay them all their losses but to reduce their hardship as they continue with their academic pursuit.
He said, “Today 29th March 2024, The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency SEMA mobilised and delivered relief materials (food and non food items) to affected students and were delivered to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Maimuna Waziri.

“The support was part of Governor Bunis commitment to always come to the flights of victims of disaster and the vulnerables. This item may not replace what the students lose but will certainly cushion and close some gaps associated with the unfortunate disaster.”
The ES further commiserate with the university over the unfortunate incident which resulted in the loss of life of a student.
Prof Maimuna Waziri has while receiving the items on behalf of FUGA, commended Yobe State’s government for considering by conducting the spot assessment and the prompt response assuring the judicious distribution of the items.
Items provided are Mattresses, Rice Bags, Wrappers, Sanitary pads, Blankets, Detergents, Soap, Mosquito nets.
In another development, the SEMA has supported the victims of farmer/herder conflicts as well as farmers affected by fire disasters in the Fune local government area of the state with food and non-food items.
The executive secretary of SEMA, Dr Mohammed Goje has while speaking during the event, called on the people especially farmers and herders to imbibe the spirit of brotherhood as each one needs his or her opponent for a living.
Goje, while speaking to victims of farm inferno from Marmari/ Gudugurka, Ngelwande and Bembande commiserated with them and applauded their resilience during the trying moments.
He commended federal agencies such as National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the North East Development Commissioner (NEDC) for their untiring support towards complementing the efforts of the Buni administration in wake of disasters and other catastrophes.

Also speaking, the chairman Fune local government area Alhaji Goni Bade, commended the Yobe state Government under the able leadership of governor Mai Mala Buni for supporting the victims praying to God to reward him abundantly.
Items distributed include bags of rice, maize, beans, Jericans of vegetable oil, Nylon poly mats, mosquito nets, bags of salt, blankets, cartons of tomato and cartons of cubes.
