Elders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara north on Monday appealed to the leadership of the ruling party to cede its gubernatorial ticket to the region.
The elders and stakeholders at a crowded press conference held at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre, Ilorin, explained that Kwara north’s demand to occupy the seat was not borne out of sentiment, describing it as a reasonable and compelling case grounded in fairness and democratic balance.
A former Minister of Transport, Hon. Isa Bio Ibrahim, who led other leaders, gubernatorial and senatorial aspirants of the APC from the region said the call for power shift was to fast track development in Kwara north.
Ibrahim, while addressing the conference that had in attendance the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi – Salihu, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, Alh Tajudeen Audu and Hon. Omar Bio, Dr Ahmed Saba, Senator Mohammed Ahmed and former Ambassador Nurudeen Mohammed among others, appealed to stakeholders in Kwara central and south to support the cause of the northern district in the spirit of fairness and collective progress.
He noted that a time like this requires unity, understanding and a shared commitment to what is right.
Ibrahim urged the national and state leadership of the APC to give consideration to the position and support the emergence of a gubernatorial candidate from Kwara north senatorial district in 2027.
He noted that the northern zone of the state has not been fortunate in almost 28 years of the current democratic experience to produce the seat of the governor, saying that it is an imbalance that must now be corrected and ameliorated.
Ibrahim added, “This timeline marks the beginning of a crucial political process that will shape the future of our state. In view of this, elders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from the five local government areas of Kwara North Senatorial District, met on April 11, 2026, to deliberate on the forthcoming gubernatorial race and the collective interest of our people.
“Our position is unequivocal. Kwarans, irrespective of senatorial zones, gender, religion, and age must rise and support our fight against the politics of exclusion in Kwara State.”
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi- Salihu, who spoke on behalf of other aspirants, dismissed the insinuation that the aspirants in the region are divided along ethnic line on account of the gubernatorial ambition.
He added that the people of Kwara north are united in their push for power rotation and for the region to be considered for governorship ticket of the APC to solidify the existing relationships among the regions in the state.
