Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Oyo State command yesterday confirmed that five people died in a motor accident which occurred along Ibadan Expressway.
The Oyo State FRSC head of operations, Olugbeso U.C, who confirmed the incident said four vehicles; one trailer and three commercial Micra vehicles were involved.
Olugbeso, who stated that nine people were involved in the accident, said two males and three females died, while the remaining four people were unhurt.
According to him, the accident was as a result of brake failure.
He said the remains of the victims had been taken to Adeoyo Hospital morgue.
The accident, which occurred at the popular Aduloju Bus Stop, directly opposite Dominion City, involved a fully loaded diesel tanker and three Nissan Micra commercial cars.
According to preliminary reports from the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), the driver of the diesel tanker lost control of the articulated vehicle while traveling at high speed.
The tanker just swerved suddenly and leveled the Micra cars before they could escape,” an eyewitness told reporters.
Officials from OYRTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigerian Police were quickly drafted to the scene to maintain order, supervise rescue efforts, and prevent any secondary disasters such as a fuel explosion.
Motorists navigating the Iwo Road–Ojoo axis have been urged to exercise extreme caution, obey designated speed limits, and ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy condition to avoid further tragedies on the expressway.
