Abdulkadir Wins Kaduna Golf Club Captain’s Inaugural Tourney

Abdulkadir A. has been crowned champion of the 2023 Kaduna Golf Club Captain’s Inaugural tournament.

Abdulkadir emerged champion with overall best nett of 66, beating the field of over 130 golfers that partaken in Captain Ken Nwankwo’s inaugural tournament held at the weekend in Kaduna.

Jamilu Ibrahim, Ahmed Bawa and Abdulkarim Bature emerged best gross, runners up nett and best nett respectively in the men category- handicap 0-14, while for the category-handicap 15-28, Adamu Gideon with ACB on 2 others, the clubs captain Ken Nwankwo with ACB on 2 others and Paul Yahaya won best gross, runner up nett and best nett respectively.

In the ladies category handicap 0-36, Justina Gideon, Lucy Monday and Christy Emmanuel won best gross, runner up nett and Best nett respectively, while Hassan Adamu, Ibrahim Yabuwat ACB on 2 others won in same order for the men veteran category and Grace Yanet won Best nett for the ladies veteran category.

Again, Justina Gideon won nearest to the pin for the ladies while Abdulgafar Ibrahim won the Longest drive for men.

For the invited guest men category, handicap 0-28, Friday Okopi won runners up gross, S.I Babanjae won best gross, Nura Umar 3rd runners up nett, Emma Sheluoe 2nd runners up nett and Isaac Umoru runners up nett.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the Tee off, the new Kaduna Golf Club captain, Ken Nwankwo, said the tournament would usher in a new era of innovations and development in the club.

“The inaugural tournament should have come three months ago but we decided to start some development projects and by the grace of God after the tournament, we would complete the small projects” he disclosed.

He explained that they had already started fencing the club because of security challenges stressing that the major problem when they took over was the course which he said it’s being worked upon for the good of the game, so that, this club should be able to compete favourably with the best of the golf courses anywhere in the world”.

 

“like I said, when we came on board, my primary assignment is the course, because without a good course there is no club.”

 

Captain Ken revealed that several tournaments are lined up after the captains inaugural event like the Heineken golf tournament and ladies open among others.

“We have almost finished working on the course and tournaments will come from next month, and by the next two weeks we will have the Heineken Tournament, then, Maigwari, Epitome, Ladies Open, and so many tournaments coming up,” he said.

About 130 players participated in the one day tournament that ended with a dinner night and presentation of prizes.
