Market Survey

The global curtains and window blinds market size is worth around $20.8 billion in 2022 and is predicted to grow to around $26.5 billion by 2030 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 3.24 per cent between 2023 and 2030.

“The cost to start a curtains business costs significantly less money than most businesses, ranging anywhere from N1 million to N5 million. Meanwhile, a yard of curtain material costs between N1,500 and N10,000. The curtain material is determined by the desired feel, aesthetic, and purpose of the drapes,” Mrs. Ifeanyi, disclosed.

Starting the business

To run a successful curtains business, one must have a strong understanding of interior design and a keen eye for aesthetics.

“You must have in-depth understanding of interior design as well as a great eye for beauty. You should also have a strong understanding of company management and be a skilled sewer. Several tools and materials, such as sewing machines, fabric, and pattern-making software, will also cost money.

“Owning a curtain company allows you the chance to offer your clients a selection of unique, bespoke things. For instance, you can work with companies, interior designers, and homeowners to create curtains that closely match the preferences and needs of your consumers.

“Window coverings are also always required because people like to change the appearance of their homes and offices. For people who are passionate about interior design and want to produce lovely, useful products for their customers, starting a business selling curtains may be a fulfilling and lucrative endeavour. You are free to invest as much time as you wish in the company. If you enjoy your work and have some prior expertise, you can start small and run the entire company by yourself,” she added.

Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs

Starting a business in the curtains industry involves a lot of work, commitment, and most importantly, passion.

“You don’t need a physical office or storefront to start your business. At least initially, everything can be done in the comfort of your home! Since there may be no face-to-face connection when launching a curtains business, building trust with consumers may be much more challenging.

“To get your customer’s attention and business, you’ll need to go above and beyond. People have a purpose to visit and return to your website if you have a good designs and quality products. So, don’t forget to upload the best and latest design on your website and social media platforms,” she advised.
