Niger State commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Elijah Etim Willie has solicited collaboration and synergy with the Nigerian Union of Journalists ( NUJ) in combating crimes in the state.
The commandant spoke during a courtesy visit to the state council of the NUJ in Minna.
He said, “The NSCDC is prepared to flush out miscreants and other forms of criminality in Niger State. This can be done in collaboration and synergy with journalists in the state. I therefore ask you to work with us to succeed.”
Willie said journalists had been playing a vital role in projecting the good image of the security agency, especially in the state and urged the NUJ to continue with the existing cordial relationship between it and the NSCDC.
Responding, the chairman of the NUJ in the state, Comrade Abu Nmodu, said journalists in the state are very professional and responsible in the discharge of their duties.
He said the union had always ensured the practicing journalists do not compromise on duty by emphasising on training and adherence to the code of ethics of the profession.
Comrade Abu Nmodu assured the state commandant of the support and adequate coverage of programmes and activities of NSCDC in the state, adding; “I can assure you that journalists in the state are ready to partner with the Civil Defence in the maintenance of peace and tranquility in Niger State.”
