Record label contract duration

A lot of record label contracts have an expiring date so when the contract expires the artist may renew or leave, it all depending on the agreement between both record label and music artist.

Likewise, some music artists leave their record label with disagreement and they do not respect the contract duration or expiring date.

A lot of music artists in Nigeria signed recording deals between 2 to 5 years with their record label executives. Most of them do not renew their contract because of reasons that are known to them only.

Record label rules and regulations

There are several rules and regulations that are available in each and every record label in Nigeria. All artists that are signed into a record label must obey the rules that are set up by the management of the record label.

After achieving success in the Nigerian music industry some music artists choose to leave their record label because of the rules which may not be favorable for them if they continue to produce their music under the record label.

A lot of music recording labels do not do international music collaboration, as an artist if you want to engage in international music collaboration you may not be permitted. International music collaboration adds massive value to any artist whether in Nigeria or other African countries.

Likewise, some music recording labels make use of music recording and releasing scheduling. You will only be permitted to record and release your song at a specific time.

It is impossible for you to do whatever you want to do at the time you want to do it. You need to follow the available rules and regulations. If these rules are not favorable for you, then you may need to terminate your contract with the record label so that you can control your music brand all by yourself.

Financial issue or disagreement

Financial disagreement is the most popular reasons why some music artists leave their record label after massive success in the Nigerian music industry.

Better offer outside record label

So they realize they are losing a lot of money to the record label after they succeed in the Nigerian music industry and they are not happy with it and they will start looking for better offers outside the record label if they find any offer, then they will leave. In most cases they usually live with fights which is not good for their music career on the long run.

There are several offers that are available in Nigeria and other countries of the world. A lot of music artists in Nigeria leave their record label and sign an international music recording deal that comes with more money and prosperity for them and their music brand.

Over the years, a lot of music artists have left their record label to establish their own recording label from Wizkid to Kizz Daniel, Olamide, Lil Kesh, and other successful music artists in Nigeria.

A lot of Nigerian music artists do not unveil the major reasons for leaving their record label to the general public.

There are several downsides for music artists that leave their record label. Majority of them find it so difficult to keep the fire burning.
