A total of 1,376,391 candidates have registered for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The registrar/chief executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, said the examination is also being held in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Cote d’Ivoire and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Wushishi said extending NECO examinations to other countries indicated the wide acceptance of its certificates.

He revealed this yesterday after monitoring the examination at some Enugu State centres.

The examination commenced on June 19 and will end on July 25, 2024. Candidates are expected to sit for the examination in 76 subjects.

In a press statement issued by NECO’s director of information and digital communication, Azeez Sani, the registrar expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination in the centre and other parts of the country.

He attributed the success to the various measures to ensure a seamless exercise.

Wushishi said that due to some innovations, the menace of examination malpractice has declined.

The registrar admonished candidates to work hard to get good grades in the examination, stressing that “there is no shortcut to success”.

He said that since the commencement of the examination, he had monitored the exercise in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra states to obtain first-hand information on its conduct.

Wushishi said that in all the states visited, the critical stakeholders applauded NECO for the measures in place, which helped make the examination seamless.
