The Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) and Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) have thrown their weight behind the upcoming 5th National Anti-Corruption Half Marathon, aimed at raising national consciousness on the scourge and danger of corruption to the country and humanity in general.

OSMA president, Major General Abdullahi Maikano and NOC President Habu Gumel made the commitment on behalf of their respective organisations at the press conference yesterday in Abuja to herald the distance race event slated to hold December 7, 2024 in Abuja.

General Maikano said OSMA will use the forthcoming All African Military Games holding in Abuja next month to galvanise support for the  Anti-Corruption Half Marathon.

“In my capacity as the president of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa, I will make sure that the African military participates in the marathon race. We will use the upcoming All African Military Games in Abuja to create awareness for the race and invite our colleagues from Niger, Ghana, Mali and other African countries to send their military representatives to participate in the marathon,” Maikano said.

NOC President Habu Gumel, who was represented by the president of Nigeria weightlifting Federation, Dr Abdul Ibrahim, congratulated the organisation of the National Anti-Corruption Half Marathon for their consistency in using the half marathon to create awareness on the danger of corruption to the society and humanity.

“I want to congratulate the organisers for holding this event, which is now in its 5th edition, consistently. NOC will support the event and participate fully,” Gumel assured.

Speaking earlier, the coordinator of the event, Onu Jacob, said no fewer than 3000 runners will participate in the annual Anti-Corruption marathon on December 7, 2024.

Onuh further disclosed that the prize money for this year’s event is rewarding, stating that while the star prize winner will smile to the bank with N1m, the first and second runners-up will get N700,000 and N500,000 each respectively.

He said the 21.25km distance race will be flag-off by top government functionaries at the Eagles square at 7am with members of the National Assembly Anti-Corruption committee, business leaders and host of other eminent Nigerians also expected to come and be part of the exercise to rid Nigeria of corruption.
