TETFund Approves 42 Institution-Based Research Proposals for JoSTUM

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has approved 42 Institution-Based Research (IBR) proposals for Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (JoSTUM).

The approval is for the years 2017-2024 merged TETFund intervention in research project and disbursement of first tranche.

This was announced by the Vice Chancellor of the institutions, Prof. Isaac Itodo, during the university’s 322nd Senate meeting.

Itodo commended the director of research and innovation, Prof. R.A. Wuana, and the Institutional Committee on Research and Innovation, for their efforts to securing this funding for the University.

He revealed that TETFund approved a sum of ninety million, nine hundred and twenty-five thousand, five hundred and sixteen naira, twenty kobo (N90,925,516.20). This amount constitutes 60% of the total approved funding of one hundred and fifty-one million, five hundred and forty-two thousand, five hundred and twenty-seven naira (N151,542,527.00) allocated for 42 research projects.

In his remarks, Prof. Wuana, shared that the proposals had undergone a rigorous peer review process aligned with TETFund’s guidelines. According to the Director, the Directorate received 46 submissions across various disciplines at the university, including Agricultural Economics and Extension (4.35%), Agronomy (4.35%), Animal Science (19.57%), Biological Science (4.35%), Education (2.18%), Forestry and Fishery (2.18%), Management Sciences (4.35%), Physical Sciences (19.57%), and Veterinary Medicine (19.57%).

He also explained that the remaining 40% of the funding would be disbursed upon the publication of at least one article by each researcher in a peer-reviewed journal with an impact factor of at least three. Researchers are required to provide evidence of publication to receive this final payment.
