The Presidency has defended President Bola  Tinubu’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, saying the trip was aimed at attracting investment, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for Nigerians.

Special adviser to the president on policy communication, Daniel Bwala, in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle yesterday said Nigeria cannot achieve growth and development by remaining inward-looking.

“Some people are saying, ‘Why go to the UK?’ Look, I hope you all know that you don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting,” he said.

Bwala explained that the visit was designed to open doors for increased economic engagement, noting that it would lead to more investment inflows and job creation for Nigerians.

“This visit is about opening doors: more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for our people,” he added.

He further disclosed that the visit had strengthened Nigeria’s relationship with the United Kingdom, particularly with the commitment shown by King Charles III to partner with Nigeria in areas of mutual interest.

“His Majesty, King Charles has shown practicable commitment to partner with Nigeria on areas of mutual trust,” Bwala stated.

The presidential aide also said President Tinubu’s engagements abroad were part of efforts to reposition Nigeria on the global stage.

“President Tinubu is making sure Nigeria is seen, heard, and respected on the world stage. That’s how you move a country forward, not by staying quiet,” he said.

He maintained that international engagements such as the UK visit are critical to advancing Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests.
