Akpabio Tasks South-South To Deliver Highest Votes For Tinubu In 2027

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged the South-South geopolitical zone to deliver the highest number of votes for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Akpabio gave the charge on Wednesday during the South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held in Asaba. The event was attended by governors from all six states in the South-South region.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC for recognising the South-South zone, noting that it has been about 45 years since the region last produced a Senate President.

According to him, the party has treated the zone fairly, with the people reciprocating through increased support and alignment with the APC.

Akpabio recalled that in 2023, the APC had only one governor in the South-South Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, but now has all six governors in the region within its fold.

He attributed this development to the leadership of the party in the zone under Chief Victor Giadom, whom he described as steady, steadfast, and focused.
“Now that we are united and focused, the question is: what number of votes will the South-South deliver to the APC?” Akpabio asked. “We must challenge ourselves to deliver the highest votes among all the geopolitical zones in Nigeria.”

He added that with the South-South now holding the position of Senate President under Tinubu’s administration, the region must not lag behind in political support.
“You cannot have a brother at the table and come last. The South-South must not come last,” he said.

Also speaking, the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, described the congress as a significant moment for the region.

He emphasised the strategic importance of the South-South in national politics and noted that the zone is now united under one political platform.

“Today is not just another political gathering; it is a declaration that the APC in the South-South is united, organised, and ready for the future,” Oborevwori said.
He urged party members to strengthen grassroots structures and maintain unity across wards and local governments.
