Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, has appealed to the Federal Government for increased funding to support the institution’s ongoing development and transformation efforts.
Professor Lar made the call during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, over the weekend in Abuja.
Highlighting the university’s rapid growth and rising demands, the Acting VC said additional financial support was critical to sustaining progress and expanding key development initiatives.
“The University is experiencing significant growth, and to maintain the momentum of transformation, we need more support from the Federal Government,” Professor Lar stated.
She also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda and interventions in the education sector, which she described as impactful and timely.
“We appreciate President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. His interventions have contributed meaningfully to national educational improvement,” she added.
Professor Lar outlined her administration’s commitment to institutional reforms, assuring that she would continue to foster an enabling environment for transformation and long-term progress at the University of Abuja.
In response, Senator Akume congratulated Professor Lar on her appointment and encouraged her to provide the dynamic leadership needed to elevate the university to international standards.
“I urge you to work towards transforming the University of Abuja into a globally competitive institution,” Akume said.
The SGF reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to strengthening the nation’s tertiary education system, stressing the importance of visionary leadership and accountability in revitalizing higher institutions.
“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting higher education, but we also need leaders who are accountable and forward-thinking,” he emphasised.
