Nigeria’s Super Eagles are firmly focused on their second Group C fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia, following a 2-1 opening victory over Tanzania. Winger Moses Simon is confident the team will secure all three points against the Carthage Eagles.
“We want the three points against Tunisia, everybody wants to win and we want to be there,” the Paris FC star told reporters, urging fans to continue their support. The match is scheduled for Saturday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
Meanwhile, despite the winning start, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle admitted his side has “lots of work to do.” Goals from Semi Ajayi and Ademola Lookman secured the win against Tanzania, though Kokola M’mombwa had briefly cancelled out Ajayi’s opener.
Speaking after the match, Chelle praised his players but highlighted areas for improvement ahead of facing a “big team” like Tunisia. “We did some mistakes but we are happy for the win and the most important thing at the AFCON is to improve in every game,” he stated, emphasising the need for defensive improvements and better movement both with and without the ball.
“We have to analyse this win because we did a lot of good things in the first half, we created chances to score and in the second half we gave Tanzania the chance to come back into the game.
“We made some mistakes but we are happy for the win and the most important thing at the AFCON is to improve in every game. Now after the analysis we will have to continue to improve because we will face Tunisia next who are a big team. We need to improve on a lot of things defensively, put in more movement when we have the ball and when we don’t, so I praise my players for the win but we have lots of work.”
