New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is determined to build a team capable of competing for silverware on a regular basis.
Following the signing of a four-year contract, the Spaniard expressed his pride in taking the helm of one of the world’s most prestigious football clubs and highlighted the untapped potential he perceives within the current squad.
“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football, and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club,” Alonso stated.
He further emphasised that his discussions with the club’s ownership and sporting leadership revealed a shared ambition: to construct a team capable of achieving sustained success at the highest level and a genuine challenge for trophies.
Alonso praised the existing talent at Stamford Bridge, asserting, “There is significant talent in the squad and enormous potential at this football club,” and described it as a great honour to lead the team.
His immediate focus will be on hard work, fostering the right culture, and ultimately winning titles.
The former midfielder will officially assume his role on 1 July. In the interim, Calum McFarlane will manage the final two Premier League matches of the season.
